Flying with the Concordia

I had the extreme pleasure of flying with Dick Butler today along side his new Concordia.  His new ship is absolutely gorgeous!  The weather was fabulous with a 6,000′ cloudbase, 5 kt lift and nice streets.  Ted Beckwith gave us a tow and we were off flying in the local area while DB flies off…

Concordia Post-Flight Interviews

After Dick’s second test flight in Concordia on May 25th, we interviewed him (still in the cockpit) and his wife and lifelong crew, Sarah. Concordia Update – 14 April 2012

On the way home last Saturday from the U.S. Team Training Camp at Chilhowee, Tennessee, your editors made a detour to Dick Butler’s workshop. We found Dick and Christian Streifeneder hard at work on the Concordia. Dick and his collaborators have been putting in very long days to get Concordia ready for flight testing this spring. With the World Championships in Uvalde, Texas only three months away, they have no time to waste.

Race Against Clock for Concordia and Quintus, and…Nearly March and 891 km in LS4 in Australia!

Yes … I guess a few people are pretty nervous, but working hard and for sure, still going strong! In Soaring Café you are very well informed about the Concordia and it is just great, that Dick Butler even keeps some time to talk to his interested supporters. I am looking forward to meeting him after so many years and to see this impressive glider. There will be only one Concordia but it will generate a lot of attention in open class, as it should.

Concordia: An Interview with Chris Woodward

This winter, Chris Woodward has been a regular in Dick’s workshop, applying a lightweight plastic film called SolarTrim to Concordia’s control surfaces. Last weekend, we interviewed Chris and asked him to explain the process and the rationale for using SolarTrim rather than gel coat or paint.
