U.S. Team Office Photos

The U.S. Team office provides a place for the team pilots to congregate and discuss strategy, a comfortable venue for the team support to monitor their progress during the task, and a haven from the oppressive heat that we groundlings must suffer while our brethren enjoy riding on the same hot air that bedevils us!

Today, our Team Captain, Dennis Linnekin, enjoyed a visit from his daughter Katie Benson, her husband Jake, and their young son Everett, who exuded unbridled and spontaneous enthusiasm about all the gliders and airplanes he’s seen in Uvalde.

My planning for the 21st leg of Alby’s journey began after my soaring buddy (and SoaringCafe.com partner) Bill Elliott trailered his JS1 Revelation to Sylacauga, Alabama on June 23rd and received custody of Alby from Eric Hey. Bill made sure Alby was comfortably tucked away in his JS1 and then soared to our home base at Moontown Airport (3M5) near Huntsville, Alabama.

SSA 2012—The Perlan Project: An Interview with Greg Cole

The Perlan Project has one bold and ambitious mission: to soar higher than any fixed wing manned aircraft has flown—all the way to 90,000 feet. The flight will use atmospheric waves extending up through and beyond the stratosphere. Such waves are produced when a high altitude jet stream that circles the polar regions (the Polar Vortex) interacts with mountain ridge systems.
