Soaring – Winch Launching from a Tow Hook’s Perspective…

This year, the Soaring Club of Reiselfingen in Germany celebrates the 50th anniversary. During the past fifty soaring seasons, the club has performed more than 93,000 winch launches. Nearly every pattern and most of the cross country flights started on Reiselfingen’s airfield by latching the 1,000 meter (3,300ft) steel cable to the glider. Like on many German airfields the diesel powered winch on the other end of the cable is a home built machine.
