Leigh Zimmerman "Around the Worlds"

Yesterday’s end was exciting, to say the least.  A line of storms formed from San Antonio across Fredericksburg and along the edge of the Hill Country and farther west.  That line of storms proceeded southwest.  Fredericksburg, a turnpoint for 2 of the 3 classes was nearly blocked by several small cells in the vicinity.  The storm line gradually lost momentum and the storm cells began to subside as they approached the Uvalde area.  Some northerly outflow from these storms did produce a reversal wind direction, with gusts to 20knots, across our area shortly before gliders began to arrive back at the field, resulting in a difficult reversal of landing pattern and recovery of the gliders.  This northerly flow proceeded southward 30 or so miles and produced a convergence line which provided the later arriving pilots a welcome 3 knot lift to get most of them home shortly before 8pm.  The last competitors arrived seconds before official sunset.
