The 32nd World Gliding Championship has come and gone. For thirteen days, the best soaring pilots in the world enjoyed all-out racing in the unique and fabulous soaring conditions of West Texas. Uvalde offered up its best weather to the best pilots, but on Sunday, August 19th, the sky just couldn’t hold back anymore, and the rains finally came. It was a soft and misty rain from a gray and overcast sky, but the spirits of the pilots, crews, friends, families, and volunteers were undiminished. There was excitement and anticipation in the air as the teams from every participating nation were celebrated and the top pilots were recognized, and as one of the most successful World Gliding Championships in modern history drew to a close.
The Soaring Café staff hope these videos will bring pleasant memories back to life for those of you who were there. We also hope they allow all of you who followed the contest from afar to participate vicariously in the celebratory mood of the closing ceremonies.
