The Yorkshire Gliding Club operates seven days a week and was founded in 1934 on a site which is situated on top of a high escarpment just five miles east of Thirsk in North Yorkshire. The long side of the escarpment faces West and therefore, provides good ridge soaring for several miles when the prevailing west wind is blowing.
