Schempp-Hirth’s Quintus M, a new 23-meter open class design, has been doing extremely well at the 2012 World Gliding Championships in Uvalde, Texas. At the time of the interview, Quintus pilot Laurent Aboulin of France was leading the open class in cumulative standings, and Tassilo Bode of Germany was third.

We were very excited and happy when the weather broke just before Christmas on December 23rd, and we were able to successfully test fly our new QUINTUS-M. This enabled us to achieve our challenging goal of getting our new 23 meter aircraft into the air in 2011 and thereby giving ourselves a wonderful Christmas present.

Schempp-Hirth recently finished the brand new high performance, self launching, 23 meter wingspan glider, the QUINTUS M. The test flight was done by the president of the company,Tilo Holighaus on December 23, 2011. On this 6-1/2 minute video you can see it fly, including an interview with Tilo. Schempp-Hirth started its newest glider’s Quintus M serial production. Quintus is a 23 m. span single-seater open class sailplane which was first presented during the yearly expo at AERO in Friedrichshafen. It is a new product from Schempp-Hirth with cooperation with Lange Aviation.
