Video “Flight to Mount Everest”

Klaus Ohlmann is back in the Himalayas: On January 28th 2014 he and his copilot Jona Keimer found breezy but perfect conditions to cruise along the highest mountain on Earth. Using wave and ridge lift the Stemme S 10 climbed up to 29,000 feet msl and soared into the heart of the Himalayas. Equipped with the DLR’s high-resolution camera system the pilots were able to take a short video of their fly by where the world is now invited to witness the first visit of a motor-glider to Mt Everest. A second (German) movie by Spiegel Online explains about the mission and offers some more stpectacular views of the mountain range. AOPA has also published a great article where you can find more background information in English about the project and the pilots. Enjoy!
