The English bestseller is now also available in German so the world’s biggest soaring community can finally enjoy the Champion’s biography in their native language. The Polish glider pilot, who won numerous World Championships and European contests has a lot to talk about: In the first part of the book he gives an interview where the reader learns how the little boy, who with a piece of play dough nearly messed up his father’s victory in a soaring contest, later grew up in sailing and earned lots of awards during his dinghy-sailing-career. Sebastian’s mother would rather have him become a piano player, but then her son had a special audience with the British crown during a sailing contest…

Living in Poland in the late years of communism, the ambitious young guy one day figured he had grown out of the dinghy class and quickly switched (back) to see what was going on at the nearby airfield. At the foot of Zar Mountain he learned to fly. Zar stands for “heat”, and this is where Sebastian started an even bigger career – in soaring. Continuously supported by his father, he conquered the top of the worldwide champions’ lists.

His book does not only talk about success. It also gives an insight into the difficulties the “mountain boy” experienced in the Polish soaring sport. His flight reviews from all the interesting places Sebastian has travelled to are amazing. In the second part of the book the reader will find useful information about weather, areas to fly, wave soaring and more. The author shares his thoughts and explains about some of his tactics. Not enough for the reader to become the next World Champion, but a lot of topics to enlarge and refresh one’s own knowledge. For those who don’t like too much theory, there are still enough stories to enjoy while reading on. All in all a great read for the next winter plus some chapters to keep in mind for the next soaring season!
