Final Glide from 150 km—”This is REAL soaring”.

I noticed on the OLC that some of my Aussie friends living in Queensland are already in full action: John Buchanan flew 593 km from Burketown (well known from the Morning Glory) in his ASH 31 /21m, and Gerrit Kurstjens in his Quintus flew 560K to Cloncurry. One day later on Friday, Gerrit’s wife Pam, also “driving”an ASH 31 /21m, flew 550K from Cloncurry (to the East of Mount Isa) whilst  Gerrit flew 566K.

Conclusion (as I know them pretty well): the three must be on a trip again! So I checked and … yes they were, this time from the East to the North (Burketown) to try to fly the Morning Glory.

As a first reaction I heard, THIS IS THE REAL SOARING!!”
Pam is very good at keeping a diary on such a trip and shared the latest news with that statement, with her club  (Darling Downs Soaring Club), so I will publish her news about this trip when it is ready and when I have received it, as they are still busy with their trip, flying home today from Rome.

They had great weather, fantastic lift over inhospitable/unlandable terrain, final glides over 150 km and … they flew THE MORNING Glory—something to look ahead to.

Not long ago the “Mecca” of soaring, Hahnweide, hosted an airshow of vintage planes. Lots of people, around 42.000, visited this 17th annual event between September 6th and 9th and looked with admiration at the Minimoa and about 300 classic airplanes, biplanes and war birds. It’s the biggest classic airplanes reunion and air show in Germany.

One of the guests was Pilotessa Design’s Kathrin Wötzel! She created, inspired by the show, her latest painting, “Those Magnificent Men in Their Flying Machines.”

Interesting news about this Bleriot, as posted on the official site (http://www.wolf-hirth.de/ott13_en/home.php) and written a few days before the happening: The Bleriot made an off-field landing on Saturday close to Dittingen and was not available for the show.

Narromine is the-place-to-be for the young ones in 2015, as the JWGC will be held there. Narromine is the oldest regional aero club in Australia, having been established in 1929. Only yesterday they elected their FIRST FEMALE PRESIDENT, Anne Elliott. Good on her!

That’s it for today. For all other news about the upcoming “overseas” season you can go to www.soaring.eu
