“Wings Over Sweden” Pilots in Competitions

Early this year, the Café published a announcement from the creators of a Kickstarter project called “Wings Over Sweden,” which sought crowd-funding to begin a TV documentary on sailplane racing.

As backers of the project, we just received a project update from spokesman Andrew McQuiggan and would like to share it with our readers. We were delighted to see the Soaring Café logo on the LS-8 of one of the pilots featured in Wings Over Sweden (see the first photo below).

The World Junior Championships took place in Leszno, Poland during the first two weeks of August.
Simon Landvist, one of the four pilots selected for Wings over Sweden, ended up in 8th place overall,
even taking a one day-win along the way.

Jimmy Bengtsson was less successful individually, but their combined points placed Sweden 6th
among the national teams, which is quite impressive considering this was better than both Germany
and France, two huge gliding nations.

Holland’s Peter Millenaar took the title.

GUNNAR SWEDISH CHAMPION
During the same period, Gunnar Axelsson and Gloria Stenfelt were busy at the Swedish championships in
Arboga. Gloria had a difficult week and ended up 16th, but Gunnar saved Wings over Sweden honours with
two day-wins and one second, which earned him more than enough points to be crowned Swedish champion.
