Tough HOT Day for the Young Ones!

 JWGC hot day

A hot, very blue day with a short task was the call yesterday for the under 25 year olds flying in Leszno, for day four in standard and day three in club class.

It was a great day for the Belgian pilots with Jeroen in first place and Jochen in second (in a tie with Swiss pilot Maxime). Niel was in sixth and should have been higher;  you can read why that did not happen in his blog. It’s great that the young ones keep us informed through their blogs, where the news is straight from the horse’s mouth.

Ten outlandings attest that it was not an easy day. And outlandings from some “toppers” as well, as the winner from the day before—Luke—and one of the German pilots, who just landed about 800 m outside the finish ring.

Day winner Jeroen Jennen, who had a bit of an off day on day one, being all-but-last, won the day with over 172.3 km and 606 points! Focused again—good on him!

In standard class, the pilots had a 2.30 AAT and in this class the three Czech pilots were the best yesterday, all of them on top with 228 km in 2.41. Overall topper Peter Millenaar from Holland landed on the dot at exactly 2.30 but flew 196 km, putting him in seventh for the day. So he dropped from first to second overall and Petr Svoboda took the lead. Today will be an official rest day, then they continue again next week. The race is not over yet!

Blogger Matthew Scutter from Australia had a good day as well, coming in fourth. He had some problems with the undercarriage the day before but made the right decisions. You can read his stories and what decision he made by clicking here.

It’s a short blog today as I have guests this weekend from Australia, friends I got to know through gliding about 35 years ago. They are not glider pilots themselves.

Yesterday we visited the GAY PRIDE in Amsterdam, all colourful people on 80 boats through the canals. The fleet included a boat with the best old soccer internationals from the past and the current coach of the DUTCH National soccer team—a good statement.
It only was too busy; there were over half a million people along the sides of the canals.

 GAY PRIDE

We also visited the King’s palace on the Dam Squire, where not long ago Willem Alexander and Maxima “waved” on the balcony when they became king and queen as seen by the world; it’s nice to be here from a small town in the southern part of Australia and to see it all with your own eyes. I liked it too, as the palace was never open before.
Today we visit Friesland!

The 50th JS-1 rolled out—time for a party! More in soaring.eu on Monday.

For all the other news about the last days of the German Nationals in Mengen for open and 18 m class, and more, you can go to the “Extra Friday News” at www.soaring.eu .

CU next week.

Cheers … Ritz
