Women Soaring Seminar goes to New Mexico for 2013

WSPA Poster 2The Women Soaring Pilots Association (WSPA) is pleased to announce that the Albuquerque Soaring Club, in partnership with Sundance Aviation, will host the 2013 Annual Women Soaring Seminar in Moriarty, New Mexico, July 8-12 2013. Moriarty boasts some of the finest year round soaring conditions in the United States, including 15 knot thermals to 22,000 ft, mountain wave to 34,000 ft, and orographic lift off the Manzano, Sandia, Ortiz, and Sangre de Cristo mountain ranges. Many flights in excess of 250 miles are recorded each year.

The Women Soaring Seminar, a tradition since 1979, provides a venue each year for both women and men to increase their skills, meet other glider pilots, and advance the sport. Activities are planned for every skill level, with emphasis on soaring badge and record training, and attempts at different distance and speed records. To date, WSPA members from across the United States have established soaring records, including a flight of over 700 miles, a flight to 41,460 ft, and a speed record for a 300 km flight at 114 mph.

The Anne Morrow Lindbergh Trophy will be awarded for the longest handicapped cross country flight of the year.
