Day 9…Started at 12.30! Updated!

12.10 ; The meeting on the front of the main runway makes all captains drive to that point. Dust and lots of cars on one heap, are the result. The result of the meeting will follow later.
Today’s ‘sniffer’ is Sam Zimmerman, Leigh’s husband,  flying SZ and he is already up and mentions as best lift 4 kt and 5000 ft. MSL!
Peter Alexander has a deserved day off. Clouds and high cirrus in the south; great clouds and blue skies to the east.

Message to the tuggies;” We stick to 12.30!!”
Good to hear Sarah is back in her tug ! She came to me and told me yesterday I kept her “sane”, while attending her work over the last days  [ she owns a work shop amongst different other jobs and her soaring…she will fly as said in Chaves and maybe hopefully in Issoudun at the WWGC, so keep sponsoring her!!!!!!]. She is here now till the end  and I am pleased to hear my guest job “works out well”, as that’s why I am here; to inform you via SOARINGCAFE about EVERYTHING what’s  happening here in…if possible…real time! Or even earlier looking at the start time on the top NOW at 12.20.

12.25 ; 10 tuggies drive their tugs to the grid!!! One self-launcher is ready on the taxiway to go up !
With this first self launcher at 12.39 day 9 is a fact. GO, GO……
And…at this stage three self launchers go up behind each other…nice view…The parallel towing, 4 planes in the air looks “spiffy” as well…..

18 m. class got a B task; still 580 km. Reason the possibilty for showers up N. so just a little change to keep pilots away from  possible less good weather. Good on the Tasksetter John!!!

start for 15m. opens at 13.32
start for 18m. opens at 14.04
start for open opens at 13.26

GAGGLE TALK;

–just spoke with Karin Schlösser and her husband Heinz Weissenbuehler. Great fun!!! She lives already for 28 years in the USA and now in Harris Hill, [New York]. Karin still flies, has her own Discus and Heinz is a top open class pilot who represented the USA during the WGC in  Lüsse in Germany, a few years ago. And Hannah who writes on the WGC site is their daughter. Hannah got to know Katja from Finland, who was here last week, in Musbach during the JWGC…unbelievable how small / great our world is!!!!!!

On the picture;
Dutchies from my “youth,” Karin  [flying with the ZES in the past ] and her lovely family
and Willem Langelaan [flying with the EAC after the Gooische and the DSA] .

—Talking about those clubs the ZES was the soaring Club of the Students from Eindhoven. The DSA was the same but the students were from Delft. We had several camps together.
The EAC is the soaring Club from Eindhoven in the south of Holland and the Gooische was in Hilversum [the middle of Holland].
SORRY, maybe I am getting a bit too nostalgic here…CU later for the finishes.
