Uvalde…Here we are!! Soaring Café is Ready to Entertain & Inform You!

Sunday July 29 2012

12.00 PM;

After a long trip to Uvalde, I was up from 4 in the morning till 2 in the night, Dutch time, and after being welcomed by Bill and Carol at San Antonio Airport, visiting the airport for a few moments, I straight went into bed in my cute “little house on the prairie”.

So good morning to all readers, from Soaring Café, especially those who were looking forward to the stories about the 3d WGC here in “bloody” hot Texas. When arriving at the Garner Field airport the first glider flying low over my head while finishing was the T4 of Dutch pilot Peter Batenburg. We were just ONE minute too late to see the CONCORDIA arrive for the first time at Garner Field, with her majestic long wings. And…I must say Dick Butler looked more relaxed than I ever saw him before. Things MUST be good.

In a good mood, as “our “cyclist Marianne Vos won gold at the Olympics. A bit of a struggle to get all connections ready on the wireless system but NOW I am sitting under a huge white partytent with Texas country music in my ears and all different friends passing by. The wind is nicely blowing through it , so a great spot.

Went to the briefing this morning in the highschool building, where the Comps director,  did the briefing at 10 sharp for the 2d official practise day. It seems a few things went not according to the rules yesterday with the landings , so straight after the briefing , there was a short TC meeting. Further on the weather will be good today with 500 km. tasks , blue but “maybe” some high small clouds in the S. later,  BUT also the possibility of  incoming sea-breeze and with thunder storms coming in “maybe” as far as Uvalde which the meteo called  a threat.
Further on 8000 ft. cloud base 38 dgr. and a SE wind with 8 to 15 kt.
So a nice practise day for those who fly.
Airspace files have changed and the current new ones have been published on the WGC website.

More a bit later with pictures and more stories. CU then.
