AAT’s today! Updated!

The contest director opened the briefing a bit after 10. One of the people listening was 85 year old Bernald Smith, still going strong and here for OSTIV.

Tasks today are 4.15 hour AAT’s , so distances possible over 700 km. in open class. It will be 1 dgr. C hotter then yesterday and due to the heat, it is 38.5 dgr., the sea breeze might be earlier today between 5 and 7 PM. Yesterday the seabreeze was NOT typical for the area. It was a weaker version, and here we did not have a real problem with it.
It will be up to 9200 ft MAX today. AND….the Monday to Friday AIRSPACE will be active .
Chief steward Dick Bradley spoke about SAFETY and the CD was happy with the landings yesterday. Compliments to pilots and crews.
The chairman of the SSA Al Tyler was introduced to all of us and the press room will be open soon , so I can get in there.

Bruce Taylor and Brad Edwards

Mac , looking at how Andrej “works ”  on a computer from one of the pilots from the Italian team , after briefing.

So the tasks today are AAT’s ; 4.15 for the 15 and 18 m. pilots and 4.45 for the open class boys who are able to fly over 700 km. Not bad!

Just got the most beautiful book from the 1991 CD Mark Huffstutler with EVERYTHING in it from the 1991 WGC. Enough to read today, as of couse I only borrowed it.
But for sure I write about it too, as I did already before from my own book.No way I could go to the field today as I do not have my ID badge yet, ordered it 3 weeks ago but it seems there were some problems and today they are very strict, no badge no visit to the pilots on the grid. Totally agree with that SAFETY first as it is a public airfield.

12.55; 9 Tuggies drive out to the field to make practise day 3 possible. A few nice cumulus clouds are appearing on the blue skies . And….at 1 PM sharp the first glider was airborne again. Towing goes very smooth and quick!Practise day 3 , which looks like a good one, is on! More wind then yesterday here outside in the tent.
For the task , the weather and the scores you can go to the official Uvalde site. Some impressions from yesterday here at Uvalde Garner Field by Gary, the crew from Bill Elliott.
