UK Open Class Nationals, 15m Nationals and Lasham Regionals – Day 2

Once again, there was fog on the airfield as we woke up. Cloudbase remained at 300 feet for much of the morning, but for a time the satellite images suggested there might be a possibility of clearer air to the southwest being pulled inland to us by the low sitting about about 100 km to our northwest, or one of three fronts sat around us. Unfortunately, this didn’t materialize; the briefing was planned initially for 13:00, then 14:00, with all classes scrubbed at 13:20 when cloudbase was still only in three digits. It’s about 5 o’clock now as I write, with cloudbase looking vaguely higher. Hopefully this is the occluded front from the north clearing quicker than expected, which would, we hope, give us a much better chance of flying tomorrow, with RASP reflecting this. Tuesday isn’t looking great, but the prediction of thunderstorms on Wednesday could make that a very interesting day. It’s very close to pointless looking this far ahead, but the soundings for the weekend look excellent, an encouraging development that gives us hope!
