Ray Galloway has been a fixture in Southern soaring for many decades. He flew until he was 84 and then continued to work at competitions as CD and weather man. Ray announced that this year’s Perry contest, Region 5 North, would be his last as competition director and his friends quickly seized the moment to roast him after a fine barbeque dinner.
The next morning Ray told his task advisors, “I’ve got a lot fewer friends today than I did yesterday.” But, as with all his sharp comments, he said it with flashing blue eyes and a sly smile that gave away his wonderful sense of humor.
Here is how Evelyn Tovar saw the event through her camera.
