[HD Video] The Sound of a Shuttle Booster Falling from Space

Thanks to Gordon Boettger for alerting us to this fascinating video. Taken by a camera attached to one of the Space Shuttle’s solid rocket boosters, it not only shows the entire ascent and descent phases from the booster’s point of view, but it includes the actual sounds recorded as the booster falls back into the atmosphere.

[The Shuttle is (was) a glider so, in the humble opinion of the editors, this video is a legitimate subject for the Café!]

Here’s a quote from the YouTube caption:

“From the upcoming Special Edition Ascent: Commemorating Space Shuttle DVD/BluRay by NASA/Glenn a movie from the point of view of the Solid Rocket Booster with sound mixing and enhancement done by the folks at Skywalker Sound. The sound is all from the camera microphones and not fake or replaced with foley artist sound. The Skywalker sound folks just helped bring it out and make it more audible.”
