Krosno (Phoenix) from the Ashes

Out of the blue, I received a call last week from Tim Barry of Barry Aviation in Florida. http://www.barryaviation.com. Tim bought the rights (type certificate, tooling, etc.) for the Krosno/Peregrine sailplane  and is trying to get a handle on the demand for a two-place all metal trainer since the grounding of the Blanik L-13. He sent the following letter to me. I am sure a similar copy went out to other U. S. soaring clubs.

Please contact Tim and share your thoughts.

Hello Peter,

Thank you for taking the time to talk with me about our Peregrine Sailplane. Your insight is helpful regarding the soaring market opportunity with the grounding of the Blanik L-13s.

Patti Barry and I hold the FAA Type Certificate, G56EU, and own all proprietary properties, tooling and worldwide production rights for a U.S. manufactured sailplane called the Peregrine, formerly the Krosno Kr-03A. It is not in the prototype phase, nor is it experimental; the Peregrine / Krosno is FAA certified and is flying in seven countries.

We are contacting several SSA soaring [chapters] to request their assistance in quantifying the need for a new 2-seat training glider. It would be helpful to get a brief description of the respective club’s history and glider fleet to establish the market opportunity. By contacting successful, long standing Soaring Society of America member clubs, we can provide an example of stability in a sport that is not highly visible in Florida; and a new subject for lease-holders and lenders to come to understand. SSA public relations and education is essential to promote growth in soaring activities.
All the clubs we have contacted have expressed an interest in our Peregrine manufacturing plans in Florida. They thought the timing is right for [an] affordable metal 2-seat training sailplane and asked for a draft or template of what we need. It would be submitted to their club directors for review and they will respond if they feel it appropriate for an anticipated future need. A non-binding Letter of Intent on your club stationary will be helpful in establishing the market demand of long term businesses. Please see [the] attached “draft” of [a] non-binding Letter of Intent. This is just an example; please feel free to change it as you feel appropriate.

It was good talking with you about our manufacturing plans and growing the sport of soaring. Thank you for your interest, and assistance. Please give me a call if you have any questions.

Best regards,
Tim Barry
