IGC Reader: A New App for the iPhone and iPad

Jelle Vandebeeck has just released a new app for sailplane pilots. He writes, “I recently released a small application for the iPhone [and] iPad to view your IGC files.  It’s a bit like a very very lightweight SeeYou. I’m now trying to spread it throughout the soaring community so hopefully people can use this handy application.”

IGC Reader is an iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad application to view and play IGC flight log files. You can open IGC files from websites or import them via iTunes and other supported applications. Here are a few screenshots and short descriptions of the main features.

View Flights – Open any IGC file and position the baro to see your altitude, rate of climb, and speed at any given location. Zoom in on the map to see a more detailed flight line.

Replay – Press the play button and watch the animated flight as it happened. Keep the marker centered or let it fly over your map.

Baro View – The baro graph gives you the full flight at a glance: it visualises altitude over time and distance. Double tap on the baro for a more detailed view.

Units – Supports metrical, imperial, and nautical units. Go to the general settings and switch from kilometer per hour (km/h) to mile per hour (mph) and even knots (kts).

Universal – Two for the price of one. You only need one application for both your iPhone/iPod and iPad, IGC Reader is built for both.

Different Maps – Choose the Google map you feel best with. Switch the view between map, satellite, hybrid, and terrain.
