JWGC Day 4 – The Race is On!

Racing fans!

Yes! It has finally stopped raining and we are in the middle of our first contest day. Launching 81 gliders in two different classes took 1 hour and 49 minutes, with one aborted takeoff from club class. The tasks are 320km for the standards and 270km for club class.

The boys are very excited to be flying

There are a handful of trackers distributed to about 7 pilots which can be seen here. JWGC Trackers. Also our spot trackers can be seen here: Boyd Willat and Devin Bargainnier. (Devin is borrowing my spot, and with the crappy Internet, updating it to say LT and Devin has been at the bottom of my list…

As you might have imagined, Day 3 (yesterday) was cancelled with more cold weather, winds and rain. Since its a world championships, the organizers are really trying to make everyday a flying day, and it wasn’t until 1330 that the day was cancelled. Looking for things to do, the options boiled down to either heading to the Panorama Bad in Freudenstadt (a massive swimming hall and spa type place) or karting in a small town in Sulz about half an hour away. It ended up that most of the teams went karting, and yours truly organized the heats for 55 drivers from about 10 different countries without creating an international incident…
