Day 7 at the Standard Class Nationals

Hellooooooooooo Race fans….

The weather today was showing on all the indicators to be great and the CD went with a 4 hr ,  337 mile TAT.  The task area was a lot more blue than yesterday that would require everyone to work a little harder. Cloud bases would start out around 6k rising to above 7k by late afternoon. Lift 7 and above would be found, but running 5-6 being the norm.

The run south with a tailwind to Moultry (15 Mi ring) was pretty straight forward with a left turn to the NW and 95 miles into the wind. UUUHHHHHNNN!! The east side of the task would go blue with scattered wisps and thermal domes marking the way and now looking at the clock all one can do is tag and go on to the next. After touching Cochran (5 mi ring)  turn SW to Dawson  (10) running with a cross wind and bumping along sampling any wisps you can find. More clouds begin to show up to help make a turn to the E to Fitzgerald (10). Left home into a 17 kt headwind to keep you working down to the 20kts cross wind landing on rnwy 5. It was ‘men at work’ today with no fun coming until final glide.

Bif Huss H7 would give himself a boost with a win for the day clocking 72.19, almost 5 mph over David Greenhill 16 followed by Phil Gaisford PG. Most everyone was 30 mins. or more overtime with Baude Litt LBL 5:34 time on course. It was vey tempting to go to the back of the first turnpoint with the great clouds only to run into weaking conditions downline in the late afternoon. A real juggling act. LBL would touchdown at 7:20 pm.

Until Tomorrow,   R
