Øyvind Moe on Tuesday took off from Hokksund (west of Oslo), then crossed the 150 km stretch of ocean over to Denmark (though he did use the engine for some of the over-water crossing), before eventually landing at the Danish national gliding center at Arnborg. But that, and a short ferry flight to the Danish island of Anholt, was just the preparation.
Last night, we posted Gordon Boettger’s announcement of his and copilot Hugh Bennett’s planned attempt to fly from Minden, NV to Garden City, Kansas in Hugh’s Duo Discus. On July 19, 2012, Pilar Muñoz Lopez of Spain flew her Discus BT over a triangular course of 750 km (466 miles) at a speed of 117.25 km/h (72.86 mph) to set European records in the General and Feminine categories in both Open and 15 meter classes. Task: Bar – Guadalupe – Ad Beas – Ad Sotos – Bar (all in Spain).
Well, they’ve gone and done it again! The Dynamic Duo, a.k.a., Gordon Boettger and Hugh Bennett, drove Hugh’s Duo Discus to yet another U.S. distance record on Wednesday, April 20th. This is the third record set by the indefatigable pair in the past two months and the longest distance flight posted on the OLC for the current season.
