May 2014 obviously was the month of European maiden flights: On May 30th, the day when Sunseeker Duo first launched in Italy, and just 24 hours before Schleicher rolled out their ASG 32 Mi, another new (powered) glider was introduced to the European skies: In Pociunai, Lithuania the 21 meter wingspan modification of a LAK-17B-FES took its first ride ever. LAK's website reports "excellent performance, efficient ailerons and nice look".
The new LAK-17B-FES is a single seated high performance glider with a front electric sustainer (FES). The 15- or 18-meter version has now been enlarged to a 21-meter wingspan. At present there are only three pictures uploaded to their photo gallery, and there is no further information available about the latest LAK-development, but there's probably more to come. Maybe when the grey clouds have moved away?!
Meanwhile, she has traveled a bit, flown a lot, and lived in the US.She is happy to now know glider pilots from the US too and says, “they are as amiable as everywhere on the world.” She feels fortunate to have found a temporary soaring home in Boulder, surely one of the best and most scenic places to fly on Earth!
