Flying with Gliding Legend Ingo Renner — by Adam Woolley

Z Narromine squad week

Squad week in Narromine .

Is n’t it great when young pilots love to fly with an ” old guy”.And,…I say that with respect, as I know Ingo ‘s age but it seems he is one of those who stay ” forever young”!
He still loves to jump in a glider, after he sat in it for 35.600 hours and is happily on his way to  40.000 hours? For him it is never boring.
Fulfilled one of my gliding dreams today, flying with a gliding legend, Ingo Renner.
We had a wonderful flight together, really enjoyable & good fun. Racing 119 kph. around a short task“.

Z Ingo and Adam

Ingo and Adam [Woolley] during the AUS Squad Coaching Week as practice for the WGC 2014.

This squad week was a great success and finished with a day ” in the office” , no this time NOT the cockpit, but on the ground and,….with this weather outside!!!A Czech guest ” used”  the day/ skies for himself flying nearly 500 km. in a Discus in autumn.
Not bad those skies,so have a look ” young ones”  as those selected , hopefully will see this when they participate in the JWGC in Narromine in 2015.

Z psychy day

Sport psychology day at squad week. No flying and it’s a perfect day .

Whilst the Aussies enjoy great soaring autumn weather with flights up to 442 km. in an ASW 27, some European pilots mostly from Germany, but also from The Netherlands, Belgium , Italy, Switzerland and Finland, have their squad-spring- training/bonding in France or Italy.
Sisteron, Vinon, Serres , Fayence, Gap , Aubenasson and Puimoisson, they are all busy  with single seaters and 2 seaters.
All teams are flying/practicing , also in their home- countries,  to be the best at the WGC in Finland [ 22-06 /05-07]  or Poland [27- 07/ 09-08 2014] or just to be good in the 2014 season. All entree- lists for the WGC’s by the way, are looking promising!

Vinon as seen by Jeroen Verkuijl flying with Jelmer Wassenaar and coach Erik Borgmann.
Great pictures shared on FB by Jeroen!

By the way the deadline for registration in Leszno is March 31!!!! Till now they have 83 pilots from 22 countries. Jelmer [LS 8/18m.] and Jeroen [ Ventus cajx] both will represent Holland  in Poland, together with 4 other pilots among them Steven Raimond [ 15 m. ASW 27] and Ronald Termaat [open JS1C].
The Belgium team in Poland will have Baudouin Litt as their TC.
Baudouin had some nice flights this week in his LS 8; 573 km. [ 327 FAI triangle] and 452 both from Seminole.Baudouin still seems to live in the USA, I know he will move back to Belgium one of these days. He will support/organize 6 pilots 2 in each of the flapped classes one of them his brother Emmanuel in 15 m.class.

Talking about France, here is the updated Selected Pilots SGP2014 for Sisteron! ONLY TOPPERS!!!!!

The Nucleair Security Summit does n’t stop only traffic in the air on the ground and on water but also the glider pilots here have a problem as some fields are closed this weekend.
“The Nuclear Security Summit (NSS) will be hosted in The Hague on 24 and 25 March 2014. The Nuclear Security Summit 2014 is a world summit, aimed at preventing nuclear terrorism around the globe.

As a result, several airspaces in the Amsterdam FIR will be closed or restricted from 16 March up to and including 28 March, 2014. Furthermore, restrictions apply for airports Amsterdam Airport Schiphol (EHAM), Rotterdam Airport (EHRD) and Eindhoven Airport (EHEH).”
A huge organization to keep this all going well , with as I heard now, 58 top leaders attending.
When you are interested you can find some news on;www.nss2014.com.

Through all of this I learned something I did not know yet. When Obama travels he takes with him; 2 planes,3 helicopters, 200 security staff members, 3 limousines , one called THE BEAST, 6 chefs and his own food and water, 100 political delegates, a mobile hospital with 6 doctors  and an X- ray- machine , a bag of blood AB and to finish a special agent with a suitcase with military codes , in case of they can even fire nuclear weapons whilst attending the nuclear summit !!!!!!
It all sounds weird , but this seems the world we live in now!If it keeps this world secure/safe, let it be!

Obama will be guest at the renovated RIJKSMUSEUM ,on Monday morning, when it is closed for the public till 1 PM. A good idea as it is in the top 5 list now from the best museums in the world.

One of my Japanese friends,  Mac made his last flight [Discus 2a] for the season in Australia , [ 524 km./490 FAI triangle] before going back home and topped the OLC list with that yesterday. He spend soaring/practice-time in Namibia and on several soaring places in Australia but Narromine always feels like home for him.
Mac will represent Japan in Leszno at the WGC in 15 m class together with Takeshi who flies 18 m..
In his home country they had a great wave-day yesterday flying from Nagano 405 km. in a Duo Discus. And the ARCUS T “used” the convergence for a nice 313 km. from Itakura.
14 Flights in Japan on the OLC yesterday, not bad!
South Africa had an ” unexpected beaut”  wave day as well. Sven shared a picture at 8000 ft.

Sven enjoying wave at 8000 ft.

Specially for my Japanese mates I finish with ” cherry blossom” . It’s that time of the year again, so for  ONE week I have great pink blossom in front of my house.A pity that time is so short.
