Solar Impulse: Watch a 72 hour Flight Simulation live

After unloading the Solar Impulse which meanwhile has returned from its solar-powered mission across the United States Solar, pilot Bertrand Piccard is currently simulating a 72 hour nonstop flight across the Atlantic Ocean. He “launched” yesterday, on December 17th and is expected to “arrive back on Earth” on the 20th. Everybody is invited to follow the simulated flight on SOLARIMPULSE LIVE. Reports and interviews are sent out around the clock, no matter in which time zone you are watching the scene. The cockpit in use is a copy of the original which is supposed to fly around the world in 2015. Of course it is extremely narrow and probably not too comfortable for such a long flight; no beds, no kitchen, no bathroom, like in a glider…

Bertrand Piccard has already travelled around the Earth in a balloon, but his next journey will be somewhat different. Being a professional doctor and psychiatrist he does not only want to learn from his partner André Boschberg who has already undergone a similar 72 hour self-test in 2012. Piccard will now study his own endurance and see how he will be coping with the extraordinary challenge. During this late-breaking mission, spectators are invited to ask questions online! The experience of “pushing human limits to new levels” will probably be interesting for all those glider pilots who like to extend their flights?
