616 km. for the CHAMPIONS and their trainees today in Kiripotib ! Looking ahead on 2014!

On November 1 the CHAMPIONS started flying with their trainees in Kiripotib.
As you remember WGC and EGC Champions share their soaring-skills, with those who want to learn from them in Namibia.
The weather on day 1 , from week 1, was sunny, dry but not too hot,so they started flying straight away. To learn you do not need TOP weather, you learn more from difficult circumstances.
So Andy Davis , [ARCUS M] Holger Karow, [ARCUS E] Janus Czentka [ARCUS M] and Uli Schwenk [ASH 25]  took their trainees [ at this stage 2 from Switzerland, 1 from Germany and 1 from Lithuania] up to a max. base of 3000 m. under blue skies, with up to 2 m. lift.

On day 2 several 500 km. tasks were set and they flew them with a speed of around 110 km./h.
On day 3 ,today, the task [616 km.] and weather [still blue but more promising] are better and their is hope for even better weather soon, so dreams of 1000 k are maybe not dreams. Also the direction has changed they are going today to Botswana.

For all news you can go to the news on the home page;
www.rent-a-glider.com It’s in German but you can use the English button. They said however that the translation is a bit slow, they work on that.
All flights are also on the OLC.

It’s already November 3 and one more month and 2013 is history. 2014 Is awaiting us , with lots of soaring comps and pre comps for 2015.
In Finland they activated the 2014 WGC site for un-flapped gliders and in Australia they are already looking ahead at the JWGC in 2015.

In Räyskälä they published the first bulletin and the invitation to fly in that great country. I had the honour of being there a few times already and I can tell you, it’s different then anywhere else and I never forget the first day of the EGC in 2005 when Silva set a 1000 km. task for open class, which was flown by nearly all. What will the weather do in 2014???

Please see http://wgc2014.fi/ and Documents section for the latest.

You can enter for the WGC between December 1 2013 and February 28 in 2014. I was “a bit worried”  when I noticed Heikki is the competition director. A very good meteo-man, I know,  is “lost” now for the comps. But they have more good meteorologists.

They are on FB and Twitter here are the links;

Also news from the Gliding Federation of Australia . The Aussies are going to be in Narromine at the JWGC, with the best of their junior pilots and they do have a few and still might “create” a few.
Coming up we all have the chance of a lifetime – the opportunity to represent our country in the Junior World Gliding Championships on home turf!
We’re all keen to make the most of this opportunity, so we’re organizing elite coaching, training events, help finding gliders, possible funding and more all for everyone interested so we have as many talented juniors ready for Narromine 2015. How do you get access to all this? Just comment here and we’ll follow up with you to connect you with a mentor to help you be the best you can be for 2015. We’ve lots of slots left for JWGC2015, so TELL US if you want in whether you’re pre-solo or flying competitions already!

That’s the SPIRIT!!!And all overseas junior pilots will have a lot of support as well. Just keep in contact and start planning ahead, maybe NOW, certainly when you have to ship your glider from Europe or the USA.

In one of my blogs I happily wrote about the speed of Tom Claffey in Kingaroy during the Multi Class Nationals; 158 km./h. I was impressed as nobody else in open/18m. class, reached that speed and they are good glider pilots as well. One of my readers wrote to me;
In 1986 Bruce Brockhoff , George Schuit and Kees Musters flew around with that speed in less good gliders.158 km./h. with a Janus p.e.
Ingo Renner and George Lee flew 180 km./h. in Hobbs.”
Something to think about! Though I remember in Rieti and Uvalde they flew with big speed as well.
And for sure at some other comps too, so maybe I was a bit too enthusiast, but I am that kind of person. Still a great speed but also good to hear that after 30 years those fast pilots are not forgotten!
