Changes Afoot at SoaringNZ

In the last six years SoaringNZ has become a fixture in gliding circles. Every two months a glossy magazine, chock full with quality articles on gliding, gliders and gliding people has been arriving in letterboxes both in New Zealand and around the world.

SoaringNZ is changing. The new format will have more content and more flexibility to include information that is happening as it happens. Editor Jill McCaw explains. “As we were approaching our sixth birthday (which is definitely a milestone worth celebrating) I realised that the magazine had become a little stale. I could just about map out the content for the magazine for a year in advance, based on dates of the local contests and what big overseas events were on. There is so much more to the sport of gliding than that, but our rigid, two monthly turn around, didn’t leave any time, and our 48 page limit didn’t allow room, to cover lesser known events, explore different gliding areas or interview anyone beyond New Zealand pilots. I wanted to change that.”

“Long story short. We are now a quarterly magazine with no upper page limit. A longer turn-around time means more chance to seek out those really interesting titbits of news from around the world and no page limit means that if something interesting is happening we can include it. Our basic premise of providing top quality articles won’t change and you can be assured that the superb look of the magazine, using only the best photos, enhanced by exceptional layout, will continue. I am sure that all our subscribers will be more than happy with the changes.”

Over the last six years we have published some exceptional articles and we will be sharing some of the best with SoaringCafe readers. We also have our first three years of back issues being made available on line, along with the feature articles of the more recent magazines. See: SoaringNZ magazine
