Will keep you informed!!

You remember I got that story from Norway about Bjørø’s amazing flight across the mountains and back a month ago? Well last Sunday it happened again!

 Fjorden 2

Beautiful Norway from above.

“Starting from Notodden in eastern Norway, I, Per Morten Løvsland and Øystein Bjørklund found wave and then kept flying from wave to wave all the way across the mountains until we were above the fjords in Western Norway!

There some truly spectacular views awaited us, and we would have liked to keep flying farther there, but with already having flown for 7 hours it was getting late. The return crossing proved to be easy with a stiff tailwind and the waves still in the same locations as we found them on the way out, so the return took us less than 90 minutes. It was three extremely happy pilots who landed back at Notodden after nearly 9 hours in the air.  Particularly since we hadn’t expected much from the day at all, as the previous day had been poor, and the weather remained very similar. But it just goes to show that you have to grab the possibilities that present themselves :-)”

Fjorden

Fantastic view on the Aurlandsfjorden.

OLC trace (this from Per Morten Løvsland, unfortunately my logger had a reset right after tow, so it was not valid for OLC): http://www.onlinecontest.org/olc-2.0/gliding/flightinfo.html?dsId=3124105

Fjorden final glide

Final glide!
All pictures on the link above have text with them. Very interesting!!!!

 Thank you Arne Martin!!!

And WOW what a finish of the WWGC in Issoudun!!!
How TERRIBLY tragic when you have to finish the WWGC a few days before it is over,  after having a collision with another glider rolling out after the finish and BEING the number ONE overall!!!!! That happened to Swaantje. Unbelievable!!!
Luckily the Polish lady got another glider and could continue, for Swaantje it was over and out! Nobody injured gliders both broken, but not beyond repair, I heard.

The last 3 days were pretty nailbiting. Ayala from the UK went from 8 to 1 overall, after Swaantje was “out” but then again from 1 to 4. USA “sweetheart” Sarah was with 2 days to go only 13 points behind the runner up and 26 behind the number 1, at that stage Doerte from Germany.

The last but one day was tough very tough, by blue skies 20 kts wind on the nose on the last leg and the first 2 in standard went “aux vaches”  loosing about 250 points. One Russian girls landed in the trees hanging there for quite a while before she was “saved” and one Aussie girl landed hard , going afterwards to hospital for a check. All was OK for both girls , though they could not fly the last day.

It was not over yet. After 8 pretty easy going days the last 2 days were hectic, difficult and for us nail biting, certainly the last day.
The scores for Standard were pretty easy as it was clear that Sue was going to be the Champion AGAIN.

In 15 m. the German ladies were “beaten”  by the 2 French and the tension in standard class was really nail biting till the early morning.
In the end 4 MEDALS.
Gold for Chrissie, mum of the lovely Fin and partner from Uli the TC from Germany. She was already WORLD CHAMPION in 2003, this year AGAIN!!!
Good on her!!!!! 2 girls on the silver spot, Ayala from the UK and Doerte from Germany, both with exactly the same amount of points after 10 days. For that reason place 3 for bronze would be empty but,…it was filled with SARAH, flying for the first time in a WWGC and representing the USA for the very first time. A real “sweetheart” for the USA fans and more than the USA.
Great performance of all ladies and congratulations!!!!!

For all pictures and more detailed news on the last 2 days of the WWGC you can read my other blog at www.soaring.eu

Enjoy as well.
