Practice Day 2 from Hobbs, NM

Today started with a small personal medical emergency and missing the pilots meeting, but do not worry, I have all information needed to keep you well updated on the contest here. :)

I hope you all looked at the results from yesterday (If not, here they are – http://scores.qtsolutions.com/). We did have 4 land-outs, safe and uneventful, just the way we like it.

Img-0211Img-004But back to today – weather wise, we have a strong flow of moist air from the South, mid-level clouds that might bring an occasional shower will pass through and a chance of isolated t-storms later. Depth of convection – 3,000 ft AGL at 1130 MDT and 87F; at 1500 MDT a peak of 10,200 ft MSL is expected with 95F; average lift 4 kts; surface winds from SSE at 16-17 kts. We will see what the day will actually bring, as it has surprised us a lot during this last week.

The tasks are:

Regional – MAT 2h, #51 Start – #35 Seminole – #50 Finish

15 M/ Open – MAT 2h, #54 Start – #15 Intersection 180 – #50 Finish

We launched 23 gliders today, as many preferred to rest before the contest starts, the weather helping a lot in making their decision.

In the regional there are a few Air Force pilots flying and I am looking forward to talking to them and telling you the news of why they are here and how it feels for them to fly gliders. Today we have an evening get together at the hangar and we will get to talk and know each other.

More later,

MD
