Adrienn Kiss

Adrienn tells us that in June, 2012, her father received a nice present: a short flight with a Cessna 152 at an airport above Miskolc.  She had enough time to go with him to the airport since it was summer and she found the airport world very compelling: a group of young people, a lot of airplanes.  Of course, she was introduced to soaring too.  She finds soaring both a cheaper opportunity for learning to fly and that it is a sport that brings you closer to nature.  She now spends her weekends at the airport and this winter had the chance to start studying gliding.

Adrienn is a student and still live with her family near Miskolc — a smaller city.  According to Adrienn, she loves writing and one of her friends suggested that she start a blog about her flying experience.  Her blog is written in her native language and can be found at www.glidingirl.blog.hu.  We are looking forward to posts from her her at the Cafe so we can follow her progress.

“Snapshots”

In the last few days I have been studying for my theoretical gliding exam. I learned a lot during the lessons, but as I am a perfectionist, I want to have a very strong basic knowledge.

I was in an inside track, as I often visited Miskolc Airport during autumn. It wasn’t difficult for me to imagine different situations in the air, so I have read my notes about gliding quickly and the revision was easy too.

This subject and the process of learning was not a torment for me, I love soaring.  During these days I remembered a lot of beautiful moments, so now I collected a few, just some “snapshots”:

Silence. I am lying on the ground. The Sun is shining brightly, the grass is a little bit wet, but it doesn’t bother me. I feel the smell of the soil, and the branches of a white birch are feathering above me. I can brood here for a while, I like these beautiful surroundings. I close my eyes and I hear soft humming somewhere in the distance. The voice is getting louder and louder. Something is coming. I open my eyes and I see the small Cessna on the horizon. The aeroplane took off for some minutes and then continued its way. Silence again.

We are standing before the hangar, it is just a small group. The door was closed, and the helicopter will leave the ground soon. I feel a light breeze and the ambulance men are ready. I am staring at the helicopter, but I feel that the wind is stronger. Suddenly all of the trees started to feather and as the soil was dry (a long period without rain) I felt the dust in my eyes. The trained pilots knew about this effect, but I was smiling and still looking at the helicopter.

What a beautiful view! There are white gliders on the green grass, not far away from each other, and there are pilots next to them, everybody is hurrying, or they are cleaning the aeroplanes. I am sitting on a bench alone and listen to them. The weather is very nice, it is eleven o’clock so there are more and more thermal columns. I have never seen these slim, white gliders in the air and I am curious. Long wings, slender fuselage, streamlined shapes. I am thinking about my future… I am waiting for the big moment, when I will be the pilot in these gliders. ;)
