Hannah’s Blog: Day 10

Sitting on the grid here at Garner Field waiting for launch to begin momentarily. Unexpected for day 10, clouds fill the sky all around from view of the airport. The first open class pilot just launched, and all the crews are slowly beginning to scatter in quick search of a cooler spot. I am watching the scene from the inside of an air conditioned motor home – it is heaven. This because today, I would rather not sweat out the aftermath of last night’s international party. After all, I am here to paint beautiful pictures for those of you following the WGC at home.

Regardless, last night’s international party was a huge success. There was everything from tamales to Vegemite, some great pasta courtesy Team Italy, crepes, and McDonalds… Not to forget the over abundance of mini solo cups that flooded the tent. Those mysterious and dangerous little things! But everyone this morning had a smile on their face (maybe too big,) so I assume they had a great time, too. Or they’re just not looking forward to seeing the pictures to be used as evidence…

From my indoors haven, the raging dust and dirt on the grid blurs sight of those pilots left who await their tows. The umbrellas of the crews are wavering, too. But everyone here is pulling through. It’s hard to believe that there are only three more days left of flying…
