Tasks today are AAT’s from 3 hour for 15m [ 421.8 km] and open class [ 462 km] and 2.45 for 18 m. class.[417.5 km]
Reason ; the expectation of thunderstorms with gusty winds later during the day.
Pilots should stay in contact with the TC’s.

Grid time at 12 PM first expected launch at 12.20 PM.

4 TC’s introduced their teams and today it was Austria, Belgium and Brazil who were presented.SORRY, MEA CULPA forgot CANADA!!!!!!

CD Ken looked back on another excellent day and the winners were announced as I told you this morning. Speed from Sebastian was 144 km./h. from Mike Young 149 km./h. and from Pete Harvey 152.3 km. /ph.

Overall results later! With just SMALL margins. TEAM CUP!!!!
POLAND 1….GERMANY on 2 and FRANCE on 3!!!!

Weather, very important today!
Unstable airmass so thunderstorms are a threat today also here in Uvalde. Tasks are set to the S. as storms come from the N. During landings the wind might change and landing might be necessary to the N. today a different patern so pilots should look extra at the documents.
Lift will be 3 m and 4 m. at 2 PM and 4 PM.
Temperature is a bit milder 36 C.
Trigger temperature 32 C.
Max altitude 8500

They have changed the radius of the finish ring today from 3 km to 15 km. and the height as well from 600 ft above the airport to 3000 ft about sealevel. This allows pilots to finish and find then the best way or safest way to land or fly around and wait for better circumstances. Good SAFETY REASON!!!!!

Come back on yesterdays story on the biggest task; Here is the comment from Frauke and another one  from Tom.
—-talking about long tasks during comps (not only Worlds). Here in the East of the US made history in 1991 (or 90, forgot the exact year) when during a Regional contest a 1000 km task was set along the Appalachian Ridges. Your scorers at Uvalde can tell you more about that. They were part of this history making day, which was recognized by the FAI as a record.

—I may be wrong about the longest flight at an international gliding
contest. I have been told that Goran Ax flew a longer flight during
the 1987 championships in Australia.
Tom

It’s 11.45 ; Last cars bring gliders to the grid. Ground crews to help at the field are riding out. By the way COMPLIMENTS to those people, doing a “brut” job under the circumstances and then they disentangle later after their heavy job also the cables!!!
Pictures from the briefing today; I showed you Lisa female pilot from Australia last week, today I introduce you to Alena, here she is

USA team Dick, Bill and John and the Chief steward talking to team USA,not knowing at this stage about his bike!

12.20; Tuggies go to the strip. Dick “raced”on his yellow bike to the strip as well!
“Tow planes start the launch when you are ready”.
AND……..Off they go at 12.23!! YES…..Off they go!!!! Good luck!!!!

Great skies again and tuggies on their way!

15 m. class opens at ; 13.25
18 m. class opens at ; 13.57
open class opens at; 13.23

13.00 ;
just spoke with Dan the [weather] man. To the W.E and S it looks great to the N you can see already middle clouds and…they will stop the storms for a while, but his guess is that it will not be able to stop it totally.

13.15; a glider 4D, David Jansen from Australia , I recognised straight away the Aussie “slang”  , landed just back on the taxi way and the launch group is asked to be stand by. David would like them to hold his wing when he arrives they were just one second late , but a whole group rushed out and is  ready to help him.

13.27
; A tuggie is in front of David to bring him back up the air and off he goes again. Good luck David!
The towing organisation is fantastic , so are the tuggies!!!!!!!!

13.30; another pilot is coming back,  this time 7 T Danish pilot Peter Eriksen, also back on the taxi way for a re- light.

13.40 ;tug in front of 7 T, canopy still open so not yet ready…..they push the glider on the tarmac…..and at 12.46 the wheels are rolling again..off he goes.  Good luck Peter.

13.47 ; another glider coming back, a self launcher  this time to solve in 5 minutes a minor problem. Ground crew grapped his wing!He will launch himself again he said. And off he went at 13.54.

On the GAGGLE-TALK site;

— “sabotage” here today ….look at the Chief stewards bike

No words needed!!!

—I am all excited first I met Greg Cole , designer of the Perlan Project glider and the Duck Hawk[more about it later] and then ED Kilmore , the famous country  and western singer introduces himself as a fan of my blogs!!!!MY DAY IS GOOD!!!!!I am a HUGE fan from him!Once had to give his CD I owned to a friend Gerrit Kurtjens who was supposed to be here as well, who wanted it desperately for his birthday. Tonight I get myself a new one!

—had a bit of a problem yesterday working here in the BIG SSA tent, but Good “old” Al, the chairman of the SSA and “owner” of the tent is trying to solve it all. Good on him. Some of my new friends here in the tent felt sorry for me and look what I got this morning. Nice and “salty ” to chew on.

— Today some “readers” flew in from Wichita [Kansas] , introduced theirselves and they going to enjoy a few nice days here in Uvalde. One of them Bob Holliday, and I recognised the name from his flights on the OLC. Nice to meet all those people you never saw before.

Look at the nice red white and blue stripes for both the USA as Holland.
