Silver Badge Cross-Country Camp at Minden July 23-27

SoaringNV will be holding a Silver Badge Cross-Country Camp from Monday, July 23rd through Friday the 27th.   The camp is designed to help the badge seeking glider pilot gain the skills, knowledge, and judgment required to safely and successfully fly cross-country.

Our goal is to have each participant complete their Bronze and Silver Badges by the end of the camp.

Topics covered will include:

Badge Rules and Requirements
Thermalling Basics
Navigation
Glide Slope Management
Landing Out
Airspace/Sectionals/Regulations
Weather
Interpreting Atmospheric Soundings
Judgment
Speed-to-Fly Theory
Posting your flight on OLC

Each day will begin with presentations, followed by flights, either individually or with an instructor, to practice the topics covered. Evening presentations will include dinner. The last two days we have planned a one-way silver badge flight with shuttle service back.  In this way we should be able to give all participants a chance to complete their Silver Distance requirement. The cost for the camp will be $300 which includes training material, a XC camp T-shirt, lectures, and dinner on lecture nights.  Flight time with an instructor, glider rental and tows will be charged separately.

Top notch cross country instruction will be available from Russell Holtz and Charlie Hayes, with support from SoaringNV staff instructors Gabe Bourbeau, and Elizabeth Tattersall.

We still have availability in SoaringNV gliders, as well as any others who bring their own gliders to fly.

SoaringNV will have new headquarters at 1138 Airport Rd.  Even if we haven’t moved there before Cross Country Camp, we will be able to offer hot showers to pilots who decide to camp in the rustic airport camping area.  We will also have a full kitchen available.

Hope to see you then!
