The Chilhowee Soaring Association, Inc. (CSA), in coordination with Jay Campbell will once again host the Carolina Wave Project in the lee of Mt. Mitchell. Join us and fly the wave to earn that elusive East Coast diamond climb.
A block of rooms (15 each, some king, some queen) has been set aside at the Hampton Inn, Marion NC, for room nights arriving February 24th and departing March 4th to accommodate Mt. Mitchell Wave Window Fliers of the Carolina Wave Project. These rooms are available at a considerable discount ($75 + tax per night) if they are reserved before February 1, 2012. This is a nice motel, about 15 minutes from the field. Call (828) 652-8482 for reservations and mention “Carolina Wave Project” for the discounted rate.
Oxygen will be available at the field at no charge as part of the camp fee of $130. Field orientation flights will be available in a Schweizer 2-32, but must be arranged prior to the beginning of the camp. Scenic flights in the 2-32 will be available as well. These flights are open to the public and to friends/spouses/etc. of the camp attendees.
We will be flying from Shiflet, NC. This is an excellent grass field, located near the base of Mt. Mitchell, and a perfect location for first-time as well as experienced wave pilots.
Thermal tows will be at the standard Chilhowee rates; low tows to the primary wave will be $120.
Due to high demand, all camp applications will require a $50 deposit to reserve a space. The deposit is refundable if there is a pilot on the waiting list willing to take over your spot. Please make checks payable to CSA and mail to:
