Uvalde Song

(apologies to Marty Robbins & El Paso!)

Out in the South Texas town of Uvalde
There was a contest of racing sailplanes
They came from all over to fly at this contest
All for a trophy, not profit or gain

US team Butler & Tabery & Willet
Flew open class with their elegant wings
Elliot & Ittner flew 18m sailplanes
Seaborn & Leonard flew 15m things

One day a wild young Aussie blew in
Wild as the Armidale wi-i-ind
Dashing and daring
A 29 he was wearing
Taylor’s sight clearly was
Set on a win

He brought a few mates from his homeland downunder
Former world champion Edwards encored
Buchanan & Kurstjens shared a Duo in open
Jansen & Trotters & Claffey too scored

Battle raged under the big Texas cloudstreets
Tho Aussie team scored better when it was blue
The speeds were impressive, the ton cracked by Tabery
That’s one sixty k p h for Aussies amongst you

In open the Dynamic Duo amazed us
Placing 11th amongst fancy long wings
In 15 Pete Trotter came 4th but so close
Only 179 points from Mac with the win

In 18m class when we look at the scores
The stuff of legends we fi-i-ind
Winning all but one day
In a blistering way
Bruce Taylor cleaned up
Leaving daylight behind!

So now in the South Texas town of Uvalde
The legend of Taylor the Aussie goes round
We hope that the pilots of 2012 world comps
Will shake in their boots when they hear he’s in town!
