As has become standard routine for us here at Musbach, the launch time has been delayed in 15 minute increments from noon, until now at 1430. Meanwhile the sky to the south has turned into a ominous storm. We can hear thunder from the field. Starting to feel that this ... ∞
Hello Racing Fans,
First - apologies for the absence of updates for the last few days - we have been exceptionally busy with some challenging flying (at least we are finally flying!) several retrieves and lots of events here on the airfield.
So today, in club class we have a ... ∞
Hello racing fans,
Today, for now, there are no delays in the pilots meetings, or any of the briefings due to weather as the forecasts are looking good.
Standard class has a 258.8 km racing task, and club class has a 238.5 km racing task. Both classes are headed first to the ... ∞
Yeehaaw!!!! Both pilots are back and have done fantastically well!!!
At the time of this writing, Boyd has the fourth fastest raw speed, but with his handicap finished in 20th pace - still an excellent finish. And, with three flight logs outstanding (I believe two of these are land outs), it ... ∞
Boyd has just landed back, and is uploading his flight trace for scoring. Reports of 6 land outs in club class.... ∞
Despite poor weather forecasts, today we are out and racing as it has turned out to be a lovely afternoon. The club class started on a 2 hour assigned area task at 1426 and the standard class started their 1.5 hour (ha!) turn area task at 1616. ... ∞
Today is an exceptionally interesting day here in Musbach. Both classes are up and flying turn area tasks, but during the launch about a quarter of the field had to return to the airport for a relight. Two pilots are on their third try, not having found ... ∞
Bonjour de Musbach,
Oh wait, we are in Germany!!! Oh la vache! What a day it has been. We awoke this morning to clear skies and warmer temperatures. But the forecasts were for more stable conditions. In fact, the local soundings showed a strong inversion at ... ∞
Boyd and Devin have been collected from their fields, after having, as the French would say it, landed 'avec le vache' - with the cows. Both landings were uneventful.
Boyd said that around 1630 the lift kind of just quit. This would correspond with about the time ... ∞
Just heard back from Devin and Boyd. Unfortunately, both are in fields, though it seems many of the competitors have done the same... Headed out on retrieves to Haigerloch and Hayingen (thank god for navigation systems).
From Suddenly blue and cool Musbach,
Some preliminary reports of land outs have been announced, but Both Devin and Boyd are still flying. Things are bluing out all around as the dry airmass from the west is moving into the contest area. Ethan and I are waiting for their return doing laundry and playing ... ∞
Yes! It has finally stopped raining and we are in the middle of our first contest day. Launching 81 gliders in two different classes took 1 hour and 49 minutes, with one aborted takeoff from club class. The tasks are 320km for the standards and 270km for club class.

Hello Racing Fans,
Contest day 2 of the Junior World Gliding Championships has been scrubbed. Today we are under the influence of a strong trough spinning off of the low pressure system centered north of the English Channel. We awoke to much colder temperatures and high winds out of ... ∞
JWGC Contest Day 1
Overnight, the cold front which had been approaching passed through our area bringing with it heavy rains and wind, saturating the ground. We awoke to much colder temperatures, very low cloud bases and moderate breezes. Walking through the airfield is like walking on a wet sponge.
The ... ∞
Hello and welcome to Freudenstadt - Musbach, Germany, site of the junior world gliding championships. As I write this, we have gridded and the launch is on hold while we wait for the temperature to increase and the cloud bases to rise.
Our pilots, Boyd Willat flying an LS-7 in club ... ∞
Yesterday the US team arrived at Freudenstadt-Musbach. We have spent the last day getting settled, recovering from jet lag, and praying that Continental Airlines will find and deliver Devin's bags to the gliderport. Unfortunately, it appears that Devin's bags never made it out of Los Angeles. The ... ∞
